许多”表达何其多
在英文中，将这些表示“许多，很多”的词组按其用法归类：
一、只能修饰可数名词的“许多”many、agreat/goodmany、a
great/largenumberof、scoresof、dozensof和quitea
few,这类“许多”修饰作主语的名词时，谓语动词用复数
记忆技巧：修饰可数名词你会发现构成短语的主要名词many，
number，score，dozen本身都是可数的
Eg：Ihavemanythingstodo.
Thereareagreat/goodmanyEnglishbooksinour
schoollibrary.
Agreatnumberofmyfriendshavebeentothe
GreatWall.
Scores/Dozensofpeoplewerekilledinthe
accident.
Ihavemadequitafewgoodfriends,too.
温馨提示：
1）many作代词，表示“许多人，许多”的意思egManyofthem
havewatchedtheTVplay.
2)agreat/goodmany做代词，表示“许多人（东西）”egA
greatmanyofuslikeAmericanEnglishbetterthanBritish
English.(我们中的许多人喜欢美语胜过英国英语）

3）thenumberof+n（可数名词复数）表示"....的数目”,用它
做主语时，谓语用单数
egThenumberofthestudentsinourclassis55.
Thenumberofbooksmissingfromtheschoollibraryis
large．
二．只能修饰不可数名词的“许多”much、agreat/gooddeal
of和alargeamountof，quiteafew这类“许多”修饰主语名
词时候，谓语用单数
记忆技巧：much，本身不可数；deal，amount都是"量”，没法
量。所以加不可数
Eg：Idon'tknowtheygaveusmuchhelp.
Thereisagreat/gooddealofsnowontheground.
Ispendalargeamountofmoneyonbookseverymonth.
温馨提示：
1）much单用，做名词表示“许多，大量”egMuchhasbeen
saidaboutit.(关于这种事已经说的很多了）
2）agreatdeal做名词词组和副词词组，也表示“大量，许多”/
还可以修饰比较级，表示程度。
egAttheendoftheyeartherewasagreatdealtodo.(年
底有很多事情做）egTheytalkedagreatdealaboutthe
problem.(他们对这个问题谈论了许多）（他今天好多了）（修饰
比较级，表示程度）

三、既可以修饰可数名词复数，又可以修饰不可数名词alot
of、lotsof、plentyof、suppliesof，a
great/quantityof、great/largequantitiesof
记忆技巧：lot，plenty，quantity他们本身自己都是集合名词，
包容性好，所以二者皆可。
温馨提示：
1）alot名词词组表示“大量，很多”/做副词词组表示“很多，
非常，相当”/做程度状语修饰比较急很多事名词）
Eg：hehelpedmealot（副词很多）
Ilikethispicturequitealot(副词非常）
2）largequantitiesof+不可数名词/可数名词复数，谓语用复
数
Eg：Largequantitiesofwaterareneededeveryday.(修饰
不可数n）
Therearequantitiesofflowersingarden.（修饰可数n复
数）
3)aquantityof的谓语动词。
+不可数n,谓语动词单数；
Eg：Asmallquantityofwaterisneeded．
+可数n复，谓语动词用复数。
Eg：Therearealargequantityofflowersinthegarden．

4)great／largequantitiesof+。+不可数n/+可数n复，谓语动
词都用复数。
Eg：Largequantitiesoffoodwereonthetable．
总结：要记短语先分清短语中的关键词，就不会混了。
